Taxis:

While you might find that Taxis are slightly more expensive in Samui,  but don’t worry this is actually quite normal is all touristic parts of Thailand.  This is due to the higher standard costs of living on these touristic islands!  They are however still rather affordable.  They generally start from THB400 and above.

If you are not planning to rent a car or a bike during your trip, you will probably have to rely on a taxi.  Taxi stands here often follow a price list that they have already preset instead of the meter.  You only have to make sure to confirm the price before you get in the vehicle.

There are also mini trucks known as Song Taews that drive around the island picking up passengers.  These prices range start from THB100 to THB200 depending on your destination

Restaurants:

Unsurprisingly, there are a plethora of beach clubs and delicious restaurants in Koh Samui!  Whether you are looking for fine dining in Koh Samui, good vibes from a beach club or simply some delicious local street side cuisine, there is something for everybody!

Tipping in Thailand is generally accepted practice if you are satisfied with your service.  Some more posh places will add additional VAT (7%) or Service Charge of (10%).

Night Life:

The best night life in Koh Samui is located on beach clubs on Chaweng Beach, Bophut Beach and Plai Laem Beach.  

For parties and a younger crowd, you can head on over to Chaweng Beach where there are beach club such as Ark Bar, Elephant Beach Bar and more!  There are also a lot of bars as well as night clubs such as The Black, Hush and Bamboo.

For a quite beach club experience with a more chilled environment you can head over to The Deck, Chi or Moet Beach Club in Plai Laem.

If you enjoy more restaurants by the beach and night markets the you will find Bophut Beach the most suitable with their walking street night market every Monday, Wednesday and Friday as well as high end beach front restaurants.  Bophut Beach is also home to Coco Tam’s arguably Koh Samui’s most popular beach club!

 Renting A Car or A Motorbike:

Renting of cars and motorbikes on the island is very easy, simply look out for car rental companies and bike companies which are present through out the island. 

It is quite common for deposits of up to THB5,000 to THB10,000 if you would like to rent a car cash from a private company. 

Otherwise if you would prefer to use a credit card, there are plenty of branded car rental companies that are located at the airport. 

You will be required to show a valid driver license at the airport car rentals.  Outside private companies might be less strict on their requirements to rent a car.

Forgetting Your Essentials or Pharmaceuticals:

If you have forgotten anything essential such as your sunglasses, sun block or mosquito repellent.  Perhaps you left some medicine which you need back home.

Fear not!  In Koh Samui, most 24 hour convenient stores carry these items that you might need.  You will find that 7-11 in Thailand sells literally anything you would need for your daily activities. 

Pharmacies are also often available to sell you any medicine or pharmaceuticals such as asthma medication, allergy medication as well as fever and other discomforts that you may have (unless a prescription is required, in which case you can head over to any of the 5 international hospitals on the island that can help you).

Medical or Dental Emergency:

If you run in to any medical or dental emergencies in Koh Samui, do not panic, the many international hospitals as well as dentists on the island are available to assist you!

All Koh Samui international hospitals such a Bandon Hospital, Bangkok Hospital, Wattanapat Hospital, Thai International Hospital and Samui International Hospital is open 24 hours to assist you with any medical emergency you may have.

Dentists on the island can be found very easily and they are well equipped with modern dental equipment to provide you with the best dental care.  They are also very used to foreigners who come to Thailand for medical tourism, so language is usually not a problem (especially English!).

If you are worried about the level of medical care in Koh Samui, you can rest well knowing that they are up to date with the best medical practices and medical staff are generally very friendly towards everybody!

Most hospitals would also take overseas insurance policies, you simply have to check with the insurance department at each hospital before you seek medical treatment and to make sure that you are covered.
